Saturday 27th April - walks **** – NT River Mole at Dorking and Around Sayers Croft in Ewhurst – cloudy .

We have arranged to spend a long weekend with our son at Sayers Croft, an outdoor adventure and education centre in Ewhurst meaning this will be the first time away in our little campervan since June 1922! Mag has done a lot of thinking and arranging for this weekend including getting a friend to feed our two cats and with the van packed we set off at 10.30 reaching the Dartford bridge at midday and as we are making good time we stop at the National Trust spot by the lovely River Mole at Dorking to see the famous stepping stones with the impressive Box Hill the backdrop! This is a lovely spot with the woods being absolutely full of wild garlic. The stepping stones are very busy so we head to the footbridge first and return to the stones and cross, Mag then returns to the van for our picnic and we find a nice spot by the river, surrounded by white flowers and enjoy lunch before returning to the stepping stones, again crowded, a couple of young girls crossing with their mum are desperate to jump into the river and in the end they do! We arrive at Sayers Croft at 2.40 and park up, Arlo is very pleased to see us an his Mum Hannah is looking after kids doing a Duke of Edinburgh practice weekend hike/camp. We then set off for a walk around the beautiful woods at Sayers Croft passing through around 50 tents for the youngster camping and it had just started to rain, I fact it was a foul night with non-stop rain!!! The rain was only light for our walk through the bluebells with Grandson Arlo having a great time in his wellies in the stream. Then back for tea and I get to read to Arlo his bedtime story before we watch Ipswich Town play Hull. With only three games left the town are so close to being promoted to the Premership but despite leading three times it ended in a draw which is still an OK result! Mag and I then walk across the car park in the rain for a night in our van with it falling on us all night!
